CCIDC BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The California Council for Interior Design Certification (CCIDC) is governed by a Board of Directors that is 100% volunteer-based. Board members serve without compensation and are responsible for the oversight and stewardship of California’s Certified Interior Designers Title Act. The Board’s role is to ensure that CCIDC fulfills its public-benefit mission to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public by establishing and maintaining professional standards for Certified Interior Designers.

The Board is composed of both professional and public members. Professional Directors are Certified Interior Designers selected for their expertise across distinct areas of interior design practice, including residential, commercial, specialty practice, sustainability, multidisciplinary work, and education. Public Directors provide independent oversight and represent consumer and public interests. In 2024, CCIDC modernized its bylaws to ensure Board representation reflects the full diversity of today’s interior design profession, rather than affiliation with specific trade organizations.

The Board operates strictly at the policy and governance level and does not engage in daily operations. Its responsibilities include strategic planning, financial oversight, approval of policies, oversight of certification standards, and protection of the integrity of the Certified Interior Designer credential. The Board does not possess cite-and-fine authority and functions within the framework of a voluntary title act.

Governance is supported through standing committees, including Executive, Compensation, Compliance, Education, and Marketing and Outreach Committees. Board members serve fixed terms, meet regularly via virtual meetings to support statewide participation, and work collaboratively with professional staff to ensure effective, ethical, and transparent governance.

Service on the CCIDC Board offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to public protection, professional integrity, and the future of interior design in California.
