How Certified Interior Designers Can Support CCIDC and Certification

The 2026 Sunset Review is a critical moment for CCIDC and for the Certified Interior Designer credential. Legislative decisions made during this process will determine whether the CID Title Act is extended and how your certification is viewed and protected going forward.

CCIDC is doing the work at the Capitol, and CID participation matters. Here is how you can help strengthen the case for certification and title protection.

1. Write a Letter of Support

Certified Interior Designers are encouraged to submit letters of support to the Sunset Review Committee members. Personal letters from practicing professionals carry real weight and help legislators understand why CCIDC and the CID Title Act matter.

Sample letters are provided below for your convenience. Letters should be submitted prior to the March 24, 2026 Sunset Review hearing date, which is to be determined by the Committee. The hearing is most likely scheduled for the fourth Tuesday in March. CCIDC will notify CIDs as soon as the official date is announced.

2. Show Up and Be Counted at the Hearing

Participation matters. Certified Interior Designers are encouraged to attend or call in to the March Sunset Review hearing in support of CCIDC and certification.

Your presence demonstrates to legislators that CIDs are engaged, informed, and invested in maintaining professional standards and public protection. CCIDC will share hearing details, including how to attend or participate remotely, as soon as they are available.

3. Contact Your Local Representatives

Reach out to your State Senator and Assembly Member and let them know you support CCIDC and the CID Title Act it administers. Ask them to support extending the Sunset Date for an additional four years.

Legislators need to hear directly from constituents who are affected by these decisions. A brief email or phone call can make a meaningful impact.

Your Voice Matters

The Sunset Review is not just about CCIDC as an organization. It is about protecting certification, defending title recognition, and ensuring that Certified Interior Designers continue to be recognized as registered design professionals in California.

CCIDC needs CIDs to participate, speak up, and stand behind the credential. Together, we can help ensure a strong future for certification and the profession.

CCIDC 2026 Sunset Review

Why This Matters to Your Certification

CCIDC will be reviewed by the California Legislature through the Sunset Review process. This is a pivotal moment for Certified Interior Designers across the state.

This review is not routine paperwork. It is the Legislature’s formal evaluation of whether CCIDC should continue, be modified, or be eliminated. Lawmakers will assess how effectively certification protects the public and whether the program remains necessary.

At stake is the strength and recognition of your credential.

What the Legislature Will Examine

During the Sunset Review, legislators will evaluate:

  • How CCIDC certifies interior designers
  • How standards are enforced
  • How consumer complaints are handled
  • Whether certification continues to protect public health, safety, and welfare

This is a public, transparent process that includes written reports and legislative hearings. It is one of the state’s most significant oversight tools.

For our profession, it is an opportunity to clearly demonstrate that Certified Interior Designers are qualified, accountable professionals whose work directly impacts life safety in the built environment.

Why It Directly Affects You

Sunset Reviews shape how credentials are perceived and protected in California.

CCIDC is using this review to:

  • Defend the value of the Certified Interior Designer title
  • Reinforce the public safety role of interior design
  • Highlight the rigorous standards required for certification
  • Distinguish qualified professionals from unregulated practice

This is about protecting your professional standing and ensuring lawmakers understand the technical expertise, code knowledge, and ethical responsibility behind your credential.

What CCIDC Is Doing

CCIDC has submitted its 2026 Sunset Review Questionnaire to the Legislature, detailing enforcement activity, certification standards, consumer protections, and public outreach.

Requests that Certified Interior Designers are recognized as registered design professionals in the law. CCIDC’s role is to safeguard your credential and maintain a regulatory framework that supports your ability to practice.

Once approved, the full report will be posted under the Legislation and Advocacy section of the CCIDC website.

Stay Informed. Know the Facts. Verify Before You Speak.

Before contacting the Legislature or providing testimony at the Sunset Review Hearing, be sure you fully understand the facts. Accurate, well-informed communication strengthens the credibility of the profession and ensures that policymakers receive reliable information.

The interior design profession depends on a clear understanding of what the CID Title Act is, what it means, and how it protects both the public and Certified Interior Designers. CIDs are encouraged to understand how title protection works, what CCIDC administers under state law, and the statutory reasons CCIDC operates the way it does.
