  • Certified Interior Designers Commercial Designation Qualifications

    • Who is it for?
      • For Certified Interior Designers who primarily engage in commercial design
      • For Certified Interior Designers who submit drawings to local building departments for commercial projects
      • For Certified Interior Designers who want an additional commercial designation to their certification
    • CIDs must currently be in good standing, and complete requirements within 6 months of application submission.
    • Initial Offering - Current CIDs that apply BEFORE December 31, 2019 will only be required to complete the ICC Courses, no additional exams necessary.
    • Beginning January 1, 2020 all CIDs that wish to obtain the Commercial Designation will need to submit proof of a national interior design exam.
    • Provide proof of passing the following California Based, International Codes Council (ICC) Courses, to qualify:
      • Building 101: Building Department Overview
      • California Building Code Essentials
      • CBC/CFC Means of Egress
      • California Building Code Title 24 Regulations
      • CBC Chapter 11B: Accessibility in Public Buildings, Public Accommodations, Commercial Buildings
    • Provide proof of passing one of the following examinations (Requirement Effective for Current CIDs as of January 1, 2020):
      • ARE      CQRID     LEED-AP    NCARB      NCBDC      NCIDQ     NKBA-(CKBD)
    • Designers not-yet certified must also pass the IDEX California® Exam**
    • Application Fee $75 - until December 31, 2017 (fee increases to $100 on January 1, 2018).
      • Fee includes new Commercial Designation ID Card and Stamp upon completion/approval.
    • 2-Year Renewal Fees will be the same for all Certified Interior Designers.
    • Commercial Designation CEU Requirements: 10 Hours per 2-Year Certification Period.
      • Five of the 10 CEU hours MUST be CA code specific courses
    • This Designation is voluntary and not required for CIDs who do commercial design.
      • This designation is to assist in the identification of CIDs who’s primary focus of practice is in commercial design.
      • Not a guarantee that plans will be reviewed
      • This is not intended as a fix-all for plan submission uniformity
        • It is only one of many steps in the process to affect change.
      • As always, it is up to the discretion of the building official to accept plans for review
      **Commercial Interior Designers who are not-yet certified can apply for certification with the commercial designation through Path 4
  • For Use By:

    Currently active Certified Interior Designers, renewing their 2-year Certification BEFORE the Expiration Date.
    • Payments made after Expiration Date MUST include late fee with payment.
      • Late renewals will not be processed until late fee is submitted
      • Late fee based upon # of days payment is late
    • All CIDs are required to complete the CEU requirements.

    Basic Certification Renewal Includes:

    • 2 Year Certification Period
    • CID Identification Card Only - No Stamp
  • For Use By:

    Currently active Certified Interior Designers, renewing their 2-year Certification BEFORE their Expiration Date.
    • Payments made after Expiration Date MUST include late fee with payment.
      • Late renewals will not be processed until late fee is submitted
      • Late fee based upon # of days payment is late
    • All CIDs are required to complete the CEU requirements.
    • Payments made through this page will not be refunded.

    Certification Renewal with Digital Image (.png) Stamp Includes:

    • 2 Year Certification Period
    • CID Digital Image (.png) Stamp file with 2-year authorization
      • (emailed directly to you 3-5 Business days after signed authorization received).
    • CID Identification Card
  • For Use By:

    • Certified Interior Designers who have met the requirements and been approved for the CID - Commercial Designation.
      • DO NOT select this renewal unless you have been authorized by CCIDC to do so!
    • Currently active Certified Interior Designers, renewing their 2-year Certification BEFORE their Expiration Date.
    • Payments made after Expiration Date MUST include late fee with payment.
      • Late renewals will not be processed until late fee is submitted
      • Late fee based upon # of days payment is late
    • Completed the requirements for Commercial designation and received approval from CCIDC
    • Provide proof of passing one of the following examinations, to qualify:   ARE   CQRID  LEEP-AP   NCBDC   NCIDQ   NKBA-(CKBD)  RIDCQ/RIDE
    • Must also provide proof of recently passing the following California Based, International Codes Council (ICC) Courses, to qualify:
      • Building 101: Building Department Overview
      • California Building Code Essentials
      • CBC/CFC Means of Egress
      • California Building Code Title 24 Regulations
      • CBC Chapter 11B: Accessibility in Public Buildings, Public Accommodations, Commercial Buildings

    Certified Interior Designers, who are currently active, renewing their 2-year Certification BEFORE their Expiration Date.
    • Payments made after Expiration Date MUST include late fee with payment.
      • Late renewals will not be processed until late fee is submitted
      • Late fee based upon # of days payment is late
    • All CIDs are required to complete the CEU requirements.

    • CID Rubber Stamp (Takes 8-12 Weeks For Delivery)
    • CID Identification Card
  • For Use By:

    • Certified Interior Designers who have met the requirements and been approved for the CID - Commercial Designation.

  • For Use By:

    • Certified Interior Designers whose Certification is DELINQUENT and wish to reactivate their Certification for 2-years.  Your Certification is delinquent when you have not paid your renewal fees by your expiration date.
    • This fee is in addition to renewal fee only in cases of lapsed / delinquent certification paid 1-10 Days after their renewal/expiration date.
    • CIDs can refer to their CID Account to confirm renewal date.
    • Certification will not be reinstated until all payments/fees are received and CEU Requirements are fulfilled.
    • When you reactivate, you will be subject to CCIDC’s CEU requirements.
    • CIDs not in good standing are delinquent for up to 4 years only.
    • After 4 years, you are “expired” and required to reapply and pass the IDEX Exam.
  • For Use By:

    • Certified Interior Designers whose Certification is DELINQUENT and wish to reactivate their Certification for 2-years.  Your Certification is delinquent when you have not paid your renewal fees by your expiration date.
    • This fee is in addition to renewal fee only in cases of lapsed / delinquent certification paid 11-30 Days after their renewal/expiration date.
    • CIDs can refer to their CID Account to confirm renewal date.
    • Certification will not be reinstated until all payments/fees are received and CEU Requirements are fulfilled.
    • When you reactivate, you will be subject to CCIDC’s CEU requirements.
    • CIDs not in good standing are delinquent for up to 4 years only.
    • After 4 years, you are “expired” and required to reapply and pass the IDEX Exam.
