POSITION DESCRIPTION
This is a full-time, tenure track interior design instructor position at the Chino Campus.           Under the direction of the Dean, the assignment for the full-service week will be to teach any and all  interior design courses offered by the department including (but not limited to) introduction to interior design, western architecture and interiors, drafting for interior design,
quick sketching, lighting, perspective drawing, space planning, materials, rendering, design   management, and to participate in any other professional responsibilities as identified under  18.2.3 of the faculty agreement. Although the assignment is initially at the Chino Campus, transfers to Fontana or Rancho may be possible per contract and need.

We are looking for a passionate self-starter with 1-3 years’ experience in Interior Design. This position, working out of our Sacramento office, participates as a team member and supports project designers in the design effort for projects with material and finish selections, casework design, light fixture selections, furniture and specialty product selections, as well as space planning, renderings and color boards (digital and physical), and resource management (product library and vendor reps).

Qualified candidates will have a BA degree in Interior Design along with 1-3 years’ interior design experience through internships and/or formal work experience. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Sketchup and other 3D rendering platforms required. Photoshop and InDesign experience a plus. The successful candidate shall be detail-oriented and self-motivated with a strong design and graphic sense and able to effectively verbally and graphically communicate design ideas.

Course Description:
Conceptualize and design a residential project. Using a specified program, analyze spaces and refine layouts to satisfy functional requirements. Become familiar with residential lines of furnishings and finishes.  Develop your color palette and select suitable materials to produce a workable and aesthetic environment for everyday living.

Qualifications:

  • Design Professional with experience in all aspects of residential design to teach studio class in University of California Berkeley's Interior Design and Interior Architecture program.
  • Must be graduate of architecture or interior design program.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Class Description:
Understand the kitchen and bathroom design process from conceptual drawings to schematic design.  Study the fundamentals of functional layouts and manufacturers’ limitations that one must design to.  Review artificial and natural daylight and ventilation requirements.  Research fixtures, equipment, specifications, and cabinetry design. Apply your knowledge from previous courses in choosing appropriate colors and specifying materials for durability, maintenance and practicality to create aesthetically pleasing spaces.

Qualifications:

    • Trained designer or architect (master’s degree preferred) with kitchen/bath experience
    • Must be capable of giving lectures in digital format
    • Should have understanding of digital drawing software, AutoCAD or Revit preferred
    • Be organized and able to make coherent, comprehensive presentations
    • Have strong design background and sensitivity

You will:

·      Assist Project Manager with client and project coordination and management.

·      Ensure compliance of preliminary pricing plans and construction documents with design intent.

·      Coordinate and prepare documentation for schematic design, design development and/or construction documents as assigned by the Project Manager.

·      Develop and compile project specifications.

·      Review the work of and coordinate with the various design disciplines for the successful completion of their scope.

·      Respond to bid inquiries regarding pre-bid approvals and prepare addenda where needed.

·      Provide assistance in construction administration.

·      Conduct or assist in on-site observations as directed by the Project Manager.

·      Prepare observation reports where appropriate.

·      Review submittals during the construction process.

·      Assist in project close-out efforts including punch lists and agency processing.

·      Meet with governmental agencies or officials as needed.

Desired Skills and Experience:

·      Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Architecture or Interior Design.

·      Certification in NCIDQ / CCIDC preferred.

·      5+ years industry experience required with specific experience in corporate and/or education projects.

·      Highly motivated, positive and proactive problem solver.

·      Strong interpersonal relationship skills.

·      Strong written and verbal communications skills.

·      Proficiency in the production and coordination of construction documents.

·      Proficiency in consultant/engineering coordination.

·      Knowledge of primary disciplines involved in various project types.

·      Proficiency in CAD and/or Revit is required.

CAD drafter/design assistant needed immediately for a temp for hire position for full time. 

Requirements:

  • 5 years working experience
  • Expert AutoCAD skills using AIA standards with particular experience creating construction docs and  detailed interior finishes
  • Must be highly proficient in Auto CAD 2D, Excel & Adobe
  • Ability to jump into in-progress projects and work under demanding deadlines
