CCIDC Strategic Planning Meeting

Brief Summary of the
CCIDC Strategic Planning Meeting

The CCIDC strategic planning meeting that took place on Saturday, June 24 in Los Angeles was well attended. Everyone who attended, including those who took the online survey, want to see certification and CCIDC continue. The participants were formed into break-out groups and offered many ideas and suggestions that will be explored and discussed further at the next meeting in September.

Commercial CID?

Please take this survey
about a possible New Title:
 “Commercial CID”

Over the past several years, and even more recently during the Sunset Review process and CCIDC’s strategic planning session, CCIDC has been approached to consider adding a new non-codified (not bound into statute like CID) designation for CIDs.

CCIDC is only charged with administering the current title of Certified Interior Designer as codified into law under Section 5800 of the CBPC. However, during the Sunset Review hearings, held before the legislature in Sacramento in March 2017, CCIDC offered to work with proponents of this idea.

The purpose of the COMMERCIAL CID designation would be to signal building officials when submitting documents for permit. The COMMERCIAL CID would be educated and tested specifically in the area of commercial design. The goal of this would be to more readily be accepted at the plan check review counter for hi-rise tenant improvement projects, especially in the larger jurisdictions such as Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Jose.

THE PURPOSE OF THIS SURVEY IS TO HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT A COMMERCIAL CID TITLE.
Please take our quick survey
as we value your opinion whether you are a CID, non certified designer, student or a member of the public. Survey is here:

Do you have plan submittal issues with
Los Angeles Dept. of Building & Safety (LADBS)?

Given the surging economy, the City of Los Angeles has a newer philosophy of partnership. CID's who are having issues with stamped construction document plan submittal to the City of Los Angeles are encouraged to connect with us to affect change with LADBS.

Meetings have already been attended by CCIDC to affect this change, and Janice Stevenor Dale, FIIDA, CID has recently had additional contact with LADBS officials, Chamber of Commerce leaders and others to continue the dialogue toward acceptance of plans as required by statute.

If you or your firm has had problems submitting plans to LADBS and/or you wish to be a part of the solution to give a face to the CID's they are denying, please contact
Janice Stevenor Dale, 213.480.7500 at your earliest convenience. Thank you!
